Born: 1990 or 1991
Died: 6/12/2006
Simon
was a Chow
mix, probably Chow Retriever Shepherd somewhere in his genes. We found him
at the Longmont Humane Society in 1992 when he was about a year old. The black on his tongue
is the "Chow" part. |
Idgie is a black dog, most likely a Border Collie mix. In 1993 we
got her as a puppy on a farm east of Boulder to keep Simon company
during the day. At first, Simon was less than thrilled. It
didn't take long for them be become inseparable. When
Simon died, you could tell that Idgie was a little lost. She had
never been alone! So, I took her to work each day and then Sue stayed
home with her. She's resilient and I'm happy to say that she has
bounced back.

Buddy
is a German Shepherd/Chow Mix. Yes, he does look like Simon and
that's what got me when I saw his picture on the web. We got him from
CAWS (Citizens for Animal Welfare & Shelter in Crawford, CO, a local rescue
group in August, 2006. We think he was about 2 years old. He
spent that time alone in a backyard with very little human or animal contact
so he has required a lot of work and attention to get him socialized.
We're making progress all the time but he can't be let off leash! |

I just know there's a
Chipmunk down there! |
|
The Mortal
Enemy!
"We Hate
Chipmunks!"

Forget cats. Anyway, the cats around here all weigh
better than 150# and have really big teeth and claws. The real
problem, as far as the dogs are concerned, are the chipmunks and related menaces such as ground squirrels (fat
munks), rabbits and raccoons. But chipmunks are the worst. They run
up on the deck all the time, eat bird seed and the plants in the flower
pots. Simon and Idgie spend a lot of time on the deck on Chipmunk Patrol
keeping us safe from these marauding creatures.

Idge
likes spending quality time in her house. |
Raccoons
are also a menace. Especially at 3:00am. |
Wading in a stream in the mountains outside of
Taos. |
Enjoying the wildflowers.

Birds
shouldn't get all the good stuff. |

Sometimes
we even get a little snow here in the mountains. But not as much as this
in the last few years, unfortunately. |

More fun in the water. This time in the Bighorn
Mountains outside of Sheridan. |
We receive local visitors and Simon & Idgie
go ballistic. If we are unfortunate enough to meet bears outside,
Simon & Idgie chase them, with me chasing the dogs. Fun.

The blizzard of '03.There's so much
snow, we're actually sitting still and pondering.
