Granby

A perfect Colorado day.  Severe clear and mostly smooth air, at least in the morning.  Granby is just over the Continental Divide and about a half-hour from Boulder (at least after you gain altitude to clear the passes!)  The airport is a short walk from town or if you're lucky the courtesy car will be there and you can go into town for breakfast or lunch.

The Boulder airport on a perfect summer (almost) morning.  That's Dakota Ridge Aviation on the west side of the field in the back left of the picture.
That's Rollins Pass (11,671') on the left and the Lake Eldora Ski area which makes an easy landmark for finding the pass.  Most people use Corona Pass a little to the south but I prefer Rollins.  I  spiral up to gain altitude before heading up to the pass!  And I also like at least 2000' between me and the ground when crossing the pass.    You can never be too careful about sudden downdrafts.
Here's what Rollins Pass looks like as you cross it.  That's the Winter Park ski area in the background.
Approaching Granby from the east with the airport in the lower right.  Notice the high terrain which is in all directions.  I'll come over the pass and then use the area to the left (south) to spiral down to the 9000' pattern altitude.  Runway 27 is preferred for both takeoffs and landings and it's a right hand pattern.
The Granby airport looking to the east.  It's unattended but there is a self service fuel pump and restrooms.
Simon and Idgie in a rare moment of being well behaved!  This is looking to the southwest.  Sue really liked the red paint scheme on the Skylane parked next to me.
